In this week’s episode of The Star Wars Show, hosts Andi Gutierrez and Anthony Carboni went behind the scenes of Star Wars: Forces of Destiny and visited Ghostbot, the California-based animation studio responsible for the micro-series, where they spoke with Brad Rau (Supervising Director) and Tatyana Drewry Carvin (Animation Director).
Brad Rau is no stranger to the Star Wars universe. He co-directed the Star Wars Rebels season two premiere, ‘The Siege of Lothal’, as well as a number of episodes from the series’ second season and even has a recurring character – the Mandalorian warrior Fenn Rau – named after him. As a huge fan of the franchise himself, producing a brand new series for Lucasfilm must have felt like a dream come true.
“The cool thing for me is getting to work with all of the story team at Lucasfilm to help create everything,” Rau explains. For him and his team, the key thing was that they “wanted to tell the smaller stories, the everyday stories that make a difference in these characters’ lives and make them who they are”.
Star Wars characters, much like ourselves, are the sum of their parts. Their everyday actions and decisions, no matter how small, define who they are as people and how they help shape the world around them. Forces of Destiny explores the unseen moments in these iconic characters’ lives and serves up bite-sized life lessons for viewers, young and old, in the process.
