If you’ve been following me on social media for a while, you’ll know that I’ve taken several brief hiatuses over the past year. On some occasions, it was due to an increased workload or family issues. Other times, I just found it tough to muster the enthusiasm to participate in fandom and, instead, retreated to my private Twitter account, where I could continue to talk about Ahsoka, the animated series, and other Star Wars-related topics with a much smaller group of trusted Twitter friends.
Lately, I’ve been feeling increasingly apprehensive about engaging with the larger Star Wars fanbase. On the one hand, I have met a lot of welcoming and amazingly talented people via social media and have enjoyed chatting about that faraway galaxy with anyone who cared to listen. On the other, it seems like there’s a new point of contention every day and, at times, Star Wars Twitter has been a cliquey nightmare to navigate. Earlier this summer, a throwaway joke about a fictional kid turned into a days-long incident that stretched the limits of my patience and convinced me to shut down my most active Twitter account. Unpleasant as it was, the incident taught me a valuable lesson: Sometimes it’s better to keep one’s opinions to oneself and celebrate one’s fandom on a smaller scale.
What does this mean for Team Ahsoka the site? Well, I haven’t fully decided what to do with this site, though it will remain online for now… just in case I change my mind and decide to pick up where I left off. With a new season of The Clone Wars on the horizon and the possibility of new Ahsoka stories in the not-too-distant future, I may decide to jump back into the fray and revive Team Ahsoka months from now. Or I might not. Who knows?
In any case, it’s time for me to focus on other projects – at least for the time being – and continue to enjoy Star Wars in my own small, carefree way. One of those other projects is my other blog, Tomb Raider Horizons, which I have been updating on and off since 2013. If you’re a fan of the Tomb Raider games and spin-off media, feel free to check it out or follow me over on @TRHorizons.
Before I sign off, I’d like to thank everyone who has supported Team Ahsoka over the years and helped me expand my tiny collection of Ahsoka merchandise. It’s been an absolute pleasure getting to know you all and sharing our mutual love for Star Wars, and I hope our paths cross again soon enough (if they haven’t already).
So, see you around, kids, and may the Force be with you. 😉
